Start a conversation

Tell me what you’re exploring, what’s stuck, or what you wish existed. A rough idea is enough to start, and the first step is a short exchange rather than a sales process.

Writing is fine

What to include

Three things are enough to make a first reply useful:

  • What you are trying to do. The outcome you want, in plain terms.
  • What is in the way. The current site, the process, the tool, or the idea that has not been built yet.
  • When it matters. A real deadline, a soft one, or no deadline at all.

Anything else is welcome too: links, screenshots, examples of sites you like, or the internal name for the problem. If you would rather talk than write, say so and suggest a couple of times that work for you.

How the message travels

The helper on this page builds a draft inside your own email app. You can read it, edit it, add attachments, and send it when you are ready. Nothing is sent automatically, and nothing you type is kept by this site: there is no database, no form service, and no third-party script involved.

If you prefer to write the whole thing yourself, email is the fastest way to reach me:

Sketch your idea

Pick a direction and add a few words. I’ll turn it into an email you can review before sending.

Your note stays in your browser until you open your email app.

What happens next

Nothing complicated, and nothing that requires you to commit to anything.

A reply

  • An answer to whatever you asked
  • Honest thoughts on what it will take
  • Any questions worth answering first

A short conversation

  • Only if it would help to talk it through
  • Half an hour is usually enough
  • Written summary afterwards, so nothing is lost

A written summary

  • What I understand the problem to be
  • The shape of the work and the options
  • What I would do first, and why

If the fit is wrong, I will say so. A clear no is more useful to you than a slow maybe, and it costs nothing to give you the honest answer.

Questions about contacting

What happens when I send a message?

The message arrives in Josh’s inbox as an ordinary email, and the next step is a reply that either answers the question or suggests a short conversation to work out the shape of the project.

What should I include in a first message?

What you are trying to do, what is getting in the way, and when it matters. If you would rather talk than write, say so and suggest a couple of times that work.

Does this site store my message?

No. The brief helper builds a draft in your own mail app and sends nothing by itself. Nothing you type is stored by this site, and no database or third-party form service is involved.
